The Monastery of St Vincente dates back to 1147 and is built in a Romanesque style. The building as it stands today is the result of a reconstruction in 1580. Saint Vincente is the patron saint of Lisbon and the monastery is one of the most important in Portugal and the entrance is flanked by two impressive towers.

The flag of Lisbon is dedicated to St Vincent and it depicts his body being transported from the Algarve to Lisbon under the watchful eye of two Ravens.

The best way to get to the Monastery of St Vincente de Fora is to take Tram 28 and get off at Largo De Santa Luzia, here you'll see a statue dedicated to St Vincent. When looking at the statue you will notice the Monastery in the background and it's only a short walk away.
