Principe Real is a relatively small neighborhood in Lisbon but it’s packed full of high end shops and quality restaurants… there is a reason that’s it is the Royal District. One of the best times of year to visit Lisbon is in May, when the trees bloom with a purple flower and Principe Real shines at its best in spring.
Just a short stroll down hill from the main street called Rua Dom Pedro V , you’ll find the the majestic Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcantara where you’ll have incredible views across Rossio below and the Castelo São Jorge standing proud on the hill in the distance.
At the opposite end of Rua Dom Pedro V. there is a magnificent garden called Jardim do Principe. Have a stroll through this garden and the first thing you’ll come across is a one hundred year old Mexican Cypress tree. The tree is low off the ground but it's branches spread so wide for such a small tree that they are supported by a metal frame. There is also a fantastic café called Esplanada located in the garden which is especially nice for brunch. On the perimeter of Jardim do Principe, you’ll often find a small street market.

Look over the other side of the street and on the corner is a wonderful turreted building, which again is a nod to the Moorish history of Lisbon. Inside is a small shopping centre called Embaixada, it’s well worth a look.
