Sintra’s architecture is famous for its picturesque buildings which are influenced from Portugal’s Moorish past. The town and surrounds are popular with tourists who travel here to soak up the history of the Portuguese royals. The tapestry of regal buildings all tell their unique tales and Sintra town centre is full of charm.

The area of Sintra sits high on the hills over Cascais and is surrounded by magnificent woodland which is ladened with trails. In high season Sintra is very busy and we recommend that you take a full day out of your itinerary if you want to visit the numerous attractions.

The best way to visit Sintra is to either book a guided tour or take the 40 minute train journey from Lisbon to the town centre. The train departs from Rossio station in Lisbon and only costs €5.00 return. However, a guided tour will add more depth to your day and you will have a much better appreciation of Sintra and how it all connects.

When you are in Sintra make sure to try the local traditional cakes, they’re called Queijadas. They are made in a 160 year old bakery called Casa Piriquita which is located in the town centre.
